Common Childhood Rashes
There are many childhood illnesses that involve some kind of rash that might be bothersome and/or unsightly for your child. Many of these rashes are of viral origin and are difficult to identify. If your child comes down with a suspicious rash, it should be checked by your health care provider before returning to school. Rashes may be caused by bacteria, viruses, insects, food allergies, medication allergies, contact with environmental allergens (ex. poison Ivy, browntail moth) and fungus. Although most rashes are not contagious, it is a good rule of thumb to call the nurse based at your child's school if your child has a rash and has been diagnosed/treated.
